The organizers of Warnemünder Woche have recently published the programme for the Bornholm/ hOO regatta. Races will start on SATURDAY, 3 July 2010, with the Warnemünde Cup, a middle-distance race on the Mecklenburg Bay. It will be followed by Up&Down Races on Sunday. The highlight of the series, the Round Bornholm long distance race, will be started on Monday, 5 July 2010. It is a long standing tradition of this third longest regatta of the Baltic IRC series, that the participants will have to decide by themselves whether they will round the island of Bornholm clockwise or anti-clockwise, which has always been a major tactical challenge. Due to the fact that the Baltic Sea mostly provides strong winds from either westerly or easterly directions the Round Bornholm Race has year by year proved to be a great challenge for the skills and endurance of participating crews in real offshore conditions. Furthermore the race record set by Klaus Murmanns former Baltic 56 "UCA" of 28 hours 37 minutes is still waiting to be broken.

Even the Rostock based V.O.R. 60 fleet including Volvo Ocean Race winner "Illbruck" has not found an opportunity to brake the record in the last decade. As the faster boats usually manage to come back from Bornholm within 35 to 50 hours the overall hOO series will not take much more than 4 to 5 days. A compact and challenging event in one of the best sailing areas of Northern Europe. The overall result of hOO in the IRC class will be taken for the Baltic IRC Open series. The organizers have furthermore anounced that the hOO fleet will get free mooring in the new marina of "Hohe Düne", a great sailing resort with all kinds of comfort (including a remarkable Spa). Warnemünder Woche as well as the German Offshore Owners Association GER-OO have also promised to provide an attractive shore programme. Read more on www.warnemuender-woche.com ". |
